INTERVOICE: Online Community for Voice Hearing |
Welcome to our site
Then this site is for you.
Because hearing voices is a much stigmatised experience we wanted to create a safe place where you can find out more about hearing voices and to create an interactive online community where you can let us know about your point of view or experience.
We have put together the most extensive international resource on hearing voices you can find on the web. Here, you will find a very different way of thinking about the meaning of hearing voices..
We understand "voices" to be real and meaningful, something that is experienced by a significant minority of people, including many who have no problems living with their voices. Our research shows that to hear voices is not the consequence of a diseased brain, but more akin to a variation in human behaviour, like being left-handed. It is not so much the voices that are the problem, but the difficulties that some people have in coping with them.
On this site we have not only provided information about ways of overcoming the difficulties faced by people who hear vocies, but have also provided information about the more positive aspects of ther experience as well as the cultural and historical significance of this important variation in human behaviour.
We hope you find you visit to this site stimulating and positive -and most importantly - we look forward to hearing from you.

My son is 8 and has told me that he hears voices. He says that they help him to do things a school. It appears that they help him in completing certain tasks. He is not worried about them but seemed to have a sense that it wasn't something he needed to tell everyone. As he put it he told me his 'biggest secret'... I am not brilliant at using websites and would like to know how I can hear about other people's experiences before I go wading in with medical stuff. Yours hopefully.
