Having trouble opening up some of the contents of your page...particularly interested in article and info re: alternative perspectives to hearing voices. My background is in Community Psychology and I've worked with adults with Schizophrenia and other major mental health diagnosis. During my time as a case manager I often thought there were several people who were not necessarily hearing or seeing hallucinations but rather experiencing a phenomena that no one around them were able to help them integrate and instead they were put on medication that made everything worse. About 6 years ago I began to study complimentary/alternative healing arts and since have had the experience of hearing voices of many different qualities, proximities and purposes. Usually these experiences happen while working on someone. Some times the voices have revelance, sometimes they don't seem to. At times while going deeper into healing arts...ie: Reiki attunements...I could hear babies crying and they seemed always to be a bit distant. Sometimes I found myself looking outside for where the baby was. Of course I didn't find any. Recently, another quality of voice has begun, first with what seemed as if there were people around the house talking but I couldn't make out what they were saying and this morning it was so clear I thought an extended familiy member had walked into our home and said, "Hello, I'm here." I'm the only one of my family members hearing these. As a healing arts therapist, there is almost nothing too weird to experience....lots of unexplanable things occur and are reported to you by clients and often great healing comes out of them. Last year my husband and I were video recording our 1 year old early in the morning. I was talking to my husband and he was recording us when a voice came from close by my left side and overlapped something I was saying. Startled, I stopped talking. The voice slowly completed the word I started. We both heard it. It was clearly recorded on the video tape. The point here is...there are so many different types of voices, origins, etc. and rarely anything found to assist in understanding it without too much of one kind of belief or another confounding it. I remain open, that sometimes there is no box to file the experience in. Perhaps the more experiences collected, the more meaning will come.

Dear Kerry, Thank you for sharing your story. I can very much relate. I am a Physical Therapist who, like you, got involved in alternative healing arts. Reiki was the first energy healing modality I picked up a few years ago and eventually became a Reiki Master/Teacher. Your experience, unfortunatelly, is typical. I say unfortunatelly because it is typical of demonic influence. The one saying "hello, I'm here" could be an evil spirit trying to possess you. They first make friends and thus create ground for infestation, then, they try to build a relationship based on them giving you psychic abilities, including healing and prophecy, in exchange for your cooperation. Maybe your case is different but please be careful. Channeling is dangerous and can result in spiritual bondage. You are potentially opening doors to spirits the same way I had. New Age is old occult. There is a very good reason by the bible explicitly prohibits it. Many New Age ideologies may sound loving and 'of the light' but in reality are a storefront for recruitement of work-horses for darkness, clothed in sheep's skin and often quite unaware of the real masters they serve. Demons can be very clever and often come as angels or spirit guides. Needless to say, I no longer a practitioner of energy/spiritual healing. I hope you consider my warning seriously. I don't want to scare you but I'd like you to avoid the pain I had to go through.
