The Hearing Voices Network Australia

Preface:

In July of 2005, the Richmond Fellowship of Western Australia (RFWA) brought Ron Coleman & Karen Taylor to Perth (Australia) to deliver a series of Recovery workshops. Ron’s support and encouragement to begin a HVN, resulted in Richmond Fellowship WA taking the innovative step of auspicing the development of Hearing Voices Network Australia (HVNA).

Axtivity

The development of a national Hearing Voices Network is well underway down-under thanks to the WA Richmond Fellowship’s supportive auspicing offer. The HVNA is currently emanating out from Perth in Western Australia and has links in a number of states such as the Prahran Mission Melbourne, Keepwell Network Cairns Qld, CAN – Consumer Activity Network Inc. Sydney. There are currently 4 Hearing Voices Groups in WA.

Our Role
To enable acceptance of hearing voices and promote recovery for people who hear distressing voices. This will be achieved through support for self-help groups, education and awareness.
(Where recovery is defined as living a meaningful life from the perspective of the individual)

Our Vision
To be at the forefront in achieving innovative, consumer-led approaches to recovery.

We will realise our vision through four Key Result Areas:
  • “Hearing Voices” Groups
  • Education & Awareness
  • Partnerships & Alliances
  • Infrastructure & Resources

Hi all, For anyone who wants to keep up with what's happening in Victoria with the Australian Hearing Voices Network, please visit our website (www.prahranmission.org.au). We are working with the national Australian network in Perth, but specifically focussing on training and support for groups across our own state. There are currently only 3 groups, but this week we are training almost 70 new group facilitators (with Jacqui Dillon), so lots and lots of new groups should be starting up over the cvoming months - we'll have all the details on our site. Cheers, Indigo Daya - Voices Vic PS - Wishing we were going to Maastricht!
