Positive voices and Recovery stories
Last updated 02/08/2007
In this section we provide accounts by people who hear positive voices; have learnt to accept them and/or found ways of coping with them:
Recovering from voices by changing your relationship with them, article by Marius Romme
Marius Romme in this new article, considers five questions about the importance of changing your relationship with the voices. Based on interviews with 50 voice hearers who have recovered from the distress caused by their voices.
“Thoughts on defragmentation and hearing voices“ by Sara Stanton
"In trying to make sense of where I am at now, or the voices I still hear, I’ve had (and still do) take many risks and step out of the river called denial, start to accept I hear voices and look at ways to understand them – like the need to defragmentate."
Alessandra's Story
"My name is Alessandra, I'm 44. I'm a mother of a beautiful daughter who's 15 years old. I'm a social worker and have been working in a psychiatric mental health service for the last 7 years. I hear a voice that I believe is my spiritual guide."
The mad doctor: The extraordinary story of Dr Rufus May, the former psychiatric patient
At the age of 18, Rufus May was diagnosed as an incurable schizophrenic and locked up in a psychiatric hospital. Now, he is a respected psychologist and a passionate campaigner on mental health issues. He is also the guest editor of this special issue. Here, he tells his extraordinary tale
The recovery position
Peter Bullimore used to be a successful businessman. But after being diagnosed with schizophrenia he became a "revolving door" patient for eight years. Yet after attending a self-help group for voice-hearers he found a route to recovery. He tells Adam James how he is now committed to service-user led initiatives
Odi Oquosa: Artist and Shaman
Because of the problems I was having, I had to talk to the doctors, who sent me to a psychiatric ward. They saw me as a mad person, who was delusional, as I was still talking with my voices. My social worker was the only person who trusted me. Now I help others who have had similar problems. I see myself as an African psychologist. The modern, European approach is only geared to the body and mind - not the spirit. These things are not clinical - psychiatrists can not cover it; I think us shamans can.
How I tamed the voices in my head
When Eleanor Longden began hearing things, she soon found herself drugged, sectioned and labelled schizophrenic. Then a psychiatrist taught her how to talk back.
Jan Holloway & J. Thomas: Learning from voices
Voice-hearing experiences and ways of coping are different for every individual. Jan Holloway and J. Thomas describe their voices and how they manage, and the Hearing Voices Network outlines its work.
'I learned to live with voices'
Brian was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia. He now takes medication and no longer hears the voices. But he questions whether his voices are a form of mental illness or merely a normal human variation.
Ron Coleman: Recovery an Alien Concept
The journey through madness is essentially an individual one, we can only share part of that journey with others, most of the journey is ours and ours alone.

I have had people contact me through voice to skull (frequency sent direct to the brain at a rate the brain understands as speech which bypasses the ear canals) since the new year after being harassed out of my work place. I have lost 2 jobs, moved 3 homes, 2 countries, mistreated in a mental health villa after being labeled schizophrenic, attempted suicide and now looking to apply to univeristy to become a psychologist and psychiatric nurse to help others in my position. We all know remote EEG exists, microwave weapons exist and MK ULTRA is still used by surveillance organisations globally for experiments or is it just entertainment and power. People who say being a victim is a condition because they had a bad experience are wrong as these people cause the bad experience later to blame for the reason why the victim killed themselves. Does Rufus May still hear the voices or has he agreed not to publicise so he can sleep at night at the expense of incorrectly diagnosing victims? The people he experienced itching their heads were those involved in a large organisation including people from all walks of life, professions all with the same interests in making people suffer if they can't get what they want. Disposable, disconnected, fearful, insane on their record, usually in debt with no contacts to refuse their involvement. Rail workers, passport officials, airport bidding, police involvement, mps involvement almost as if these mobile surveillance operatives the MS5 do not need due to scientific advancment are just gangstalking. Do you ever get the feeling that fate is forced? Do you know why the lowest earners pay more tax? Do you know why insane labelled individuals can now be removed from society? Why suicide rates are altered? To hide the truth about law abiding citizens being illegally targeted for mind control. Who benefits most from it? Everyone involved but the victim.

I am also a V2K victim from these state terrorists operating in extremist fractions of the intelligence communties within Britain and abroad. They speak to me, attack me at diffferent parts of my body cause me to have epileptic type fit symptoms, cause me to sleep feel dizzy and sabotage my life. The UK has turned into a mind control hotbed for paedophiles and perverts in power. I have witnessed them stalk me and have seen their machines. Many people being targeted think they are going mad and are met with ignorance by the public either through their denial of mkUltra or the influence of mind control without the knowledge themselves.

For years I have "heard" voices. I am hearing impaired (No hearing in the right ear and very little in the left ear) What I hear is not something easy to describe but I'll try. While lieing in bed without a hearing aid I seem to hear something coming from another room, like a television program or perhaps the NEWS. I can't make out any words but no matter where I am, visiting out of town, in a hotel room or at home, I still hear this "news report" coming from another room. This is not a constant thing but very often and enough to keep me wondering why. Have you heard of anyone having the same experience? Thank you.
