Field of Dreams (1989)

If you build it they will come.......

Ray Kinsella is an Iowa farmer with a wife and a little girl. He has never resolved his conflicts with his baseball loving father who died many years before. Ray begins to hear voices and becomes obsessed with an urge to build a baseball stadium in his best cornfield. When the field is built the ghosts of frustrated baseball players, including Kinsella's father, soon appear. Through the events in the film, Kinsella becomes reconciled to his father's memory and to his own feelings of guilt about their relationship.

The field itself remains a major American tourist site. Nestled within a Dyersville, Iowa cornfield, it is a destination visited by more than 800,000 people over the past thirteen years.

Field of Dreams stars Kevin Costner, Amy Madigan, Gaby Hoffmann, Ray Liotta, Timothy Busfield, James Earl Jones, Burt Lancaster, and Frank Whaley.

The movie was directed and adapted by Phil Alden Robinson from the novel Shoeless Joe by W. P. Kinsella. It was nominated for Academy Awards for Best Music, Original Score, Best Picture and Best Writing, Screenplay Based on Material from Another Medium.

The character played by Burt Lancaster and Frank Whaley, Archibald "Moonlight" Graham, was a real baseball player. The background of the character is based on his true life, with a few factual liberties taken for artistic reasons.
