Blue Pastures (James)

Track 11, Whiplash; Mercury Records

I wrote one lyric about a guy going to commit suicide by going on his favorite walk and lying down in the snow and allowing himself to die. You read any lyricist, like the Beatles or whatever, they say they didn’t write their lyrics. The whole muse thing in Greek mythology, that’s a myth with a power behind it, and the power behind it is because there’s a truth in it.
Tim Booth, lyricist and lead singer

Excerpt from song:

Blue Pastures
Blue pastures fade away
Green rivers in silver light
I’m walking to the sound of distant bells
So peaceful I don’t know who I am

And just when I think its clear it turns so grey again
And I wonder who will find me in the snow
And just when I thought I was free I got pulled in again
Once you’re in, you’re in

Blue pastures calling home
I’m walking, but I can’t stand any more
Hear voices can’t tell near or far
Wierd voices lay me down
And I don’t see why I’m obliged to just carry on
When everything I touch turns out wrong
And I feel I have committed some crime but I don’t know what I’ve done
One day life just wins

Still breathing, but I’m tired and I want to go home
Still breathing but I’m not sure any more
Still breathing but it really doesn’t matter if I fade away
Fall into a sleep
Fall into the deep
