We’re really excited to share this excellent feature with you. “Voices Matter” was filmed during last year’s World Hearing Voices Congress in Cardiff (Wales) and captures some of the vibrancy of the Hearing Voices Movement.
Here is what ‘Mad In America’ say about the feature:
“Voices Matter” is the first full production to emerge from the Open Paradigm Project, a collective dedicated to heeding the voices and perspectives that accompany the diverse and changing realities we all share. This documentary about the Hearing Voices Movement was filmed over the course of three days at the 2012 World Hearing Voices Congress in Cardiff, Wales.
The Hearing Voices Movement started 25 years ago in the Netherlands, as an organization for voice hearers and others interested in this phenomenon. In 1988, The Hearing Voices Network was established in England, and in following years, further networks have been established in Italy, Finland, Wales, Scotland, Switzerland, Sweden, Austria, Germany, Norway, Denmark, Japan, Israel, New Zealand, Australia and the USA. The network is currently comprised of thousands of Hearing Voices groups, and growing.
Stay tuned to MadinAmerica.com for future Open Paradigm documentaries, live streaming events, and related productions.

I am a “licensed clinical professional counselor”, in the U.S., but more than that I am a compassionate and empathetic person. I work in an in-patient “psych”-unit,in a hospital in the city of Baltimore, with many people who hear voices. These people have all been labeled “schizophrenic”, and have been demoralized, and given no hope or effective type of treatment. I listen to my patients and genuinely care about them and their well being. I use a completely holistic approach, I don’t use the labels or believe in the labels, I believe the way you do in Voices Matter, that these voices are a symptom of something, a coping mechanism, or their own suppressed emotions, trying to get some form of expression. But the voices, I believe, serve some purpose.
Please tell me how I can be part of this campaign, and what I can do in my community to educate and bring more understanding to this area.
Sincerely,
Marnie Kahn, LCPC
