Activities:
Angelo Arecco, Cristina Contini, Marcello Macario, and Alessandra Santonio are co-ordinating a hearing voices network in Italy. They have held two annual national conferences (the last one in September 2009 and have just set up a website (www.parlaconlevoci.it which means “talk with voices”) having in mind the felicitous INTERVOICE example trying to adapt its content to the current local situation. Their aim is to facilitate the access both for more professionals who would like to get involved with the new approach towards the HV experience and for voice hearers eager to acquire all available information at different levels (international, domestic and locally).
There are now more centres in Italy (Savonna, Milan, Rome, Bologna, Parma and Trento in the North with Sicily coming on stream soon).
Activities in Prado (near Florence) continue, with conferences held on a regular basis, ably organised by Pini Pini and Donatella Miccinesi. Pino and Donatella hosted a memorable INTERVOICE meeting in Prado and Florence in 1998. Pino is a psychiatrist who has had a long term commitment ot empowering users of mental health services and is involved in European and International networks on this important issue. Donatella actively supports a self help group for people who hear voices in Prado.
Ron Colemans' book “Recovery an Alien Concept” has recently published in Italian by Manifesto Libro. Working with Voices 2 is now translated into Italian as well.
